Roof Maintenance Tips

It is very important to have a good and strong roof overhead, and everyone knows that. Your roof provides protection to the rest of your home from damage, helps in controlling heat and keep your home cools, adds more value to the home and give a happier and healthier place for your family to live. Even if your roof is old, by following these maintenance tips, you may be able to keep it in good condition for a longer time. Here are the roofing maintenance tips:

1. Check your roof two times a year and after a storm

Spending a little time checking your roof two times a year, in fall and spring and after severe storms is the first step in maintaining your roof in good condition. The regular inspections should be performed on both outside and inside of the roof. Inspections after the storm should be performed on the outside, to make sure that there are no broken tiles. Inspections must be performed with the help of ladder and binoculars.

2. Trimming tree branches that are overhanging

During the roof, inspections see if there is any tree growing near to the roof and your house. If there are overhanging branches on the roof these should be trimmed. Pine needles or falling leaves can accumulate in valleys of your roof where they can collect moisture and start to rot the tiles which can make them weak and allow rainwater to seep through causing further damage to the roof structure. The roof can get gouged by the falling branches and damages the tiles. By trimming the branches before they damage any further you must protect your roof by preventive measures.

3. Clean the debris from your roof

You must clean all the debris from the roof at least two times a year. Leaves, pine needles, dirt and other debris can cause mildew and mold to grow on your roof over time and cause more damage. By keeping your roof clean you are eliminating the potential damage to your roof, which not only makes it look better but also remains in the best possible condition.
